David Z. Alatorre, 69, passed away on June 18, 2025, in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Born on August 27, 1955, in Old Mesilla, New Mexico, David lived a life rooted in hard work, honesty, and generosity.
David earned his high school diploma from the New Mexico State Board of Education in May 1995. Over the years, he built a diverse and dedicated career across several industries. He began as a laborer at Stahman Farms and later worked in maintenance and as a truck driver. His skills led him to become a supervisor at Cruces Transit Mix, where he performed and oversaw concrete form settings. He also served as a coding machine operator at Ener Steel and worked as a general laborer for William Kiser Builders. His leadership continued as a construction supervisor at D&L Construction and later as a general laborer specializing in laying concrete and cement finishing at Salcido Construction.
David was known for his strong work ethic and willingness to lend a helping hand. Whether it was offering the shirt off his back or giving his last dollar to someone in need, he lived by example—always putting others before himself.
Outside of work, David found joy in simple pleasures. He loved taking drives to the river and going shooting. Working on his truck brought him peace of mind, while writing served as an outlet for reflection. A true car enthusiast, he also cherished riding his bike—describing the feeling as soaring like a flying eagle. And nothing pleased him more than relaxing with a cold beer after a long day.
David’s storytelling was legendary among those who knew him; tales from his past were shared with humor and heart, leaving lasting impressions that will be deeply missed.
He is lovingly remembered by his two sons: Gabriel Alatorre and wife Erica, and David Jr. Alatorre; two daughters: Lydia Holguin and husband Jesse Holguin, and Veronica Smith and Travis Brown. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Jeremy, William, and Stacey Dammerich; Elizabeth Alatorre; Isaiah, Nathan, and Savanah Alatorre; Jacob Nieto; Destiny Molina; Faith, David, and Anakin Alatorre; Shanice Smith; and Larry Smith.
Your wings were ready—but our hearts weren’t ready to let you go.
May David’s memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
